7. New MyPlayer Builder

Perhaps the biggest change coming to the My Player Builder is the removal of the pie chart system. There will still be restrictions “based on your vitals”, and that you won’t be able to max out everything. So in essence, the fundamentals of the pie charts remain, just without the visual guidance there.

8. New Badges

New Badges

Badges are getting a rework come next-gen. The NBA 2K series has some infamous badges that have lasted for years, and many remain in NBA 2K21. But 22 badges will be removed on next-gen, and 22 new badges will be added!

1). NBA 2K21 Badges Removed for Next-Gen

This list features Consistent Finisher, Contact Finisher, Cross-Key Scorer, Fancy Footwork, Fastbreak Finisher, Deep Hooks, Pick & Roller, Relentless Finisher, Showtime, Deep Fades, Flexible Release, Hot Start, Pick & Popper, Pump Fake Maestro, Range Extender, Quick Draw, Steady Shooter, Pass Fake Maestro, Flashy Passer, Lob City Passer, Lightning Reflexes, and Moving Truck.

9. New Takeover System

The Takeover system has been revamped as well. Players will now have a primary and secondary Takeover. Also, they can still activate Team Takeover. What’s more, all three levels can be active at once.

Rather than having eight general archetype-based Takeovers, NBA 2K hs creating 24 more refined Takeover abilities.

Here’s the full list of Takeovers: Advanced Gathers, Finishing Moves, Easy Blowbys, Pull-Up Precision, Anklebreaking Shots, Negative Impact, Limitless Range, Spot-Up Precision, Team Ratings Boost, Team, Takeover Boost, Team Badge Boost, Extreme Clamps, Perimeter Badge Drop, Enhanced Jump Shot Contests, Stuff Blocks, Paint Intimidation, Interior Badge Drop, Boxout Wall, See the Future, Glass Clearing Dimes, Power Backdowns, Post Playmaking, Advanced Post Moves, and Post Shot Daggers.

10. Expanding The Neighborhood

The City is The Neighborhood transformed. The Neighborhood was a huge accomplishment back in 2017, but as 2K moves to another generation of consoles, it has expanded.

Now there is an entire City for gamers to explore interact and more. It’s huge, and I’ve heard it would take nearly 45 minutes for a character to walk from one end to the next.

Visual Concepts says The City “resembles a modern metropolis, complete with towering skyscrapers, sprawling plazas, and a city center,” all while housing four distinct in-game Burroughs, the North, South, East, and West. Each of the four boroughs has its own distinct identity and features its Affiliations colors, logos, and courts. Players can make use of the Warehouse courts in these boroughs to improve their MyPLAYER.

11. The WNBA Experience is Much Larger

WNBA

2K introduced the WNBA in NBA 2K19. They built it out a bit for NBA 2K20, but have taken it to another gear with the next-gen version of NBA 2K21. There is a fully functional, online, and offline franchise mode called MyWNBA, a WNBA-themed MyCareer journey as well as an online spot for players to take their female MyPlayers called the W.

12. MyNBA

Revamped League Management Mode. MyLeague and MyGM players are among some of the most ardent NBA 2K fans out there, and this year brings a revamp to the league management mode with MyNBA. In MyNBA, players can create their own league and manage at both the GM and commissioner levels with unprecedented levels of control. Some of the new additions to NBA 2K21 include the ability to create leagues ranging from 12 to 36 teams, develop players in the G League and set new scoring rules like the ELAM Ending.

13. MyTeam Carryover Connects with Current-Gen

Current-gen player’s VC wallet and MyTeam collection will transfer over to next-gen consoles. The mode appears to be mostly the same, however, there are at least a few new environments including a spot called the Pink Diamond Plaza in The City.

14. Expanded MyCAREER Story

The next-gen version of NBA 2K21 gives players unprecedented new control on how they get to the league with more options than ever. New to the franchise is the exciting addition of the NBA G League, the NBA’s official minor league whose alums include freshly minted 2020-2021 NBA Champion, Alex Caruso.

The expanded MyCAREER story will also offer a new level of immersion, personality, and activity only available in the next-gen version of NBA 2K21, including some appearances that longtime MyCAREER players may recognize!
