NBA 2K20 is the latest game in the 2K series, with multiple modes for players to enjoy. There’s MyTeam mode (U4gm promotion: cheap and safe NBA 2K20 mt for sale), which allows you to build a team, MyLeague, which allows you to play custom league Settings, etc. It has been greatly improved in all aspects of the game. If you want to learn more about this popular basketball video game, you need to learn some tips and tricks.
Master your Playbook
Utilizing the Playbook is vital in getting team-mates to follow your commands, both on defense and offense. You can toy around with each team’s various plays in the menus, and initiate them on the court by pressing L1/LB. Players are particularly aware this year with regard to individual positioning, so don’t be afraid to use the Playbook to get the AI to run an important offensive or defensive play.
Get your shot timing down
In 2K20, timing is everything. To nail a swish, press and hold the shoot button (the right stick or X on Xbox) and release when the shot meter is full. Getting that timing down takes some practice, especially because the meter fills at different rates depending on who is shooting the ball and how open the shot is.
Use block shot sparingly
Unless you’re 100% sure you’ve got the timing down, resist the urge to press the contest shot button (Y on Xbox and triangle on PlayStation).
Don’t abuse the turbo button
To avoid having to bench your stars for long breathers, let off of the turbo button. You really should only be using it in fast-break scenarios or if you’re caught out of position and need to race to the open man.
Crowd the ball holder
To crowd the ball holder, hold the left trigger button (LT on Xbox or L2 on PS) and move the left analog stick in the direction of the defender.
Pick and roll should be your go-to play
To execute a pick and roll, hold LB (or L1 on PS4) and wait until your teammate moves into the position between you and the nearest defender. Your teammate’s pick should open up some space for you to run into and make a drive toward the basket. Pick and rolls are easy to run, don’t take a lot of time off the shot clock, and are great for creating space between you and a stifling defense.
Use bounce passes for safety
The one you should master first is the bounce pass. This is a low-risk pass that makes it harder for defenders to jump into the passing lane and steal the ball. Just make sure you don’t try to pass it to someone on the other side of the court.
Get back on the fast break
Speaking of fast breaks, don’t lollygag on the turn of possession. If your teammate misses a shot and you can’t get the rebound, start running down to the other end of the court. And when you make the shot, don’t sit around celebrating when the point guard is about to take the ball right back in the other direction.
Box out on rebounds and free-throws
And speaking of rebounds, make it easier on yourself. The defense will be in a better position to rebound the ball more often than not. When you are, hold L2 to box your guy out, and either pave the way for your players to grab it or go and get it yourself (especially if you’re the center).
Use sprint sparingly
Getting back to defend doesn’t need you to sprint unless the opposition goes on a speedy counter. Take your time and keep an eye on your marker so you know where to head. When attacking the rim, be patient when executing a set play, or pass the ball around to look for an opening. Essentially, strategize without increasing your player’s fatigue.
Make use of Evolution Cards
One of the best additions to MyTeam is the Evolution Card. By completing certain challenges you can evolve your card of choice and improve its overall rating and badges.
Stick to a man while defending
The improved AI allows you to trust your team and lets you focus on the player you’re marking. Using L2/LT to keep close forces him to remain in a corner of your half-court, or draws him out of position – often breaking up an opponent’s approach in the process.
Go for well-timed steals
Forcing turnovers is an important part of basketball. Try and only go for the steal against a player who doesn’t have great handling, or while they’re in the act of passing the ball. Even just one or two stolen possessions can be the difference between winning and losing the game.
Call for or set picks and rolls
It’s a simple affair: tap L1, and you’ll be able to move a nearby teammate into a guarding position so as to disrupt your defender and allow you to make a move around him.
Use Action Points in MyGM wisely
MyGM now gives you a limited number of AP, or action points, per day. Just about everything you do in the mode costs AP, including playing games, chatting with players and changing staff. You can alleviate any frustration by being smart about how you use your Action Points. We recommend mixing it up — talk to players and coaches to keep their morale up and only play games against tougher opponents.
Optimize your MyCareer player
Your first assignment in 2K20’s MyCareer story mode is to create a player. First, you’ll need to decide on a player’s position. Next, match the skills breakdown pie chart with your player’s position. From there, you’ll need to choose a physical profile. Again, you’ll want to match that profile with the position of your player. All of these decisions will determine how many points you can allocate toward your player’s skills categories.
Once you make it to the “Set your potential” screen, you’ll be given a certain amount of upgrade points to allocate toward different skills. We recommend maxing out the Shooting and Finishing categories for shooting guards while giving some Playmaking points to point guards. Centers will want to spend most of their points in the Defense/Rebounding category. Power forwards and small forwards are the most versatile players, and, therefore, should be given balanced attributes.
Know your players
Take some time to learn the pros and cons of the player you’re using. Check out their attributes and ratings to see where they excel and do your best to put those players in the best places where they can make an impact. If you don’t watch a lot of NBA, then spend some time looking at 2K20’s comprehensive player stats to determine each of your player’s strengths and weaknesses.
Be a MyCareer all-rounder
In NBA 2K20, making sure you’re an all-rounder award access to more options for building your repertoire.
