With streamlined controls, updated visuals and, of course, a new league roster, the NBA 2K20 is on its way to becoming the most concerned game of the year. Here’s what we know about the best parts of the NBA 2K20 basketball game.
Best: Realistic Gameplay
Make no mistake about it, the gameplay is the best its been. Despite what we said about clunky AI moments, the gameplay in this game is better than ever. The main reason for that the action is far more physical and realistic. There are all sorts of new animations that bring the game to life.
The game also did a lot to improve the screen system. NBA 2K20 not only faithfully captures the appearance of the league’s biggest and brightest stars but mastering the game’s controls – which does come with a bit of a learning curve – means you can also pull off the moves like their real-life counterparts.
Moving without the ball and players coming off of screens is a huge part of the current NBA game, so having that nailed is important for this series.
Best: MyCareer Storyline
MyCareer is where the NBA 2K20 truly shone, with a fantastic story mode curated around a character who I’d personally created. One thing that usually delivers is the story and this year might be the best.
Idris Elba and a star-studded cast showed up to add a much deeper sense of immersion to the story, its true-to-life characters, and great cut-scenes. The plot is engaging and incorporates real aspects like the draft combine and the G League in effective ways.
Best: The WNBA
For the first time in the history of the NBA 2K video game franchise, the game includes WNBA players. All 12 WNBA franchises will be featured in the game, as well as a majority of the league’s players and head coaches. You can play an entire season as a WNBA team or even use all of them if you want. The renders are splendid and mostly look like real-life players. There’s also plenty of work put in for a presentation, with WNBA specific commentators. The gameplay with the ladies is a blast, as there seems to be a feeling of a more wide-open game.
Best: Roster Variety
You will simply never find a sports game with a deeper roster than this one. You have the current NBA rosters, which would be enough for most games. But NBA 2K goes above and beyond. They added classic teams, tons of new legends and it brought back the All-Decade teams. Now, if we could just get the old-time filters back for the retro teams, I’d be 100-percent pleased on this end. Other, you also can start a MyLeague using the All-Time rosters and a fantasy draft.
Best: It’s Gorgeous
This year’s version is the best looking one yet. The big details like player render and arenas are obvious but all of the little things work. The lighting, renders, tattoos, hairstyles, neighborhood, and MyCareer cutscenes are delivered with as much beauty and style as any of these elements have been in previous versions, every detail you could think of was meticulously brought to life. There are also a lot of new basketball animations that help to make the action look more realistic in NBA games, and just plain cool in the PARK.
